Brownfield Clean-Up

Former industrial sites in urban areas, called brownfields, expose residents to harmful chemicals. Isles informs community groups of nearby brownfields and educates them in how to clean up and redevelop these brownfields. An important part of this effort is train local residents, especially young adults, in careers related to environmental cleanup through the New Jersey Center for Energy and Environmental Training (NJ CEET).

NJ CEET offers basic adult education and life skills and provides 10 hours of OSHA training, as well as specialized technical education for environmental cleanup. Once graduates have learned techniques to remediate lead in homes and buildings, remove asbestos, and clean up mold and mildew, Isles helps them find entry-level jobs with local employers. These may include environmental firms, waste management and sewage treatment facilities, and companies in the construction home improvement, and home performance fields.
