Isles’ nature-based education focuses on the relationship
between people and the environment, in particular the environment’s impact on the health and well-being of communities. Reaching thousands of K-12 students in the region, Isles also trains teachers to use a special Isles
curriculum that:
- Links scientific principles and knowledge to the real life experiences of both urban and suburban children.
- Explores native natural resources and environmental expertise of the Trenton area.
- Applies “natural experiments/observations” and practical knowledge to community service.
- Involves families and students in learning and related activities.
- Emphasizes the value of an educated community.
- Links to other standard curricula, including science, social studies (in particular, the relationship of human societies and history to the natural environment), reading, writing and math.
