In 2008 Isles piloted Ready, Set, Grow! (RSG) — a nutrition education initiative for preschool children and their parents — in four Trenton preschools. With this program, children have fun as they eat healthy and nutritious foods and learn about nutrition. Preschoolers’ parents gain the confidence and skills they need to buy and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables for their families.
RSG is a multidimensional service that:
- Provides cooking and nutrition workshops for parents with their children.
- Organizes a fresh food buying cooperative for preschool families.
- Provides a Learning Institute at Fernbrook Farm to train teachers in nutrition education.
- Creates a learning community for parents, helping them build healthy eating habits at home.
- Builds a culture of healthy lifestyles for children and provides them with skills they need to control their own health.
