First Time Homeownership

First Time Home Ownership

For upcoming First-Time Homebuyer Workshops, visit our events page, as classes are posted periodically.

Buying a home can be an intimidating process, especially for the first-time home buyer. Our pre-purchase home buyer counseling and support demystifies this process through individual credit and housing sessions and home buyer workshops. Isles can also provide  home buyers resources that can provide financial assistance with down payments and/or closing costs. Isles is a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) certified housing counseling agency.

Potential home buyers receive one-on-one credit and housing counseling, complimentary registration into the Home Buyer Workshop, referrals to partner banks and real estate firms, and referrals to down payment assistance programs (if available).
Through one-on-one counseling we will help you:
- determine whether purchasing a home is the right financial choice for you
- review your credit
- help you create a concrete budget to determine the monthly amount you can responsibly pay for a home
- assist with credit repair
- review your mortgage documents at closing
- offer other advice on your home purchase
At the present time, there is no fee for this service.
Isles also offers Home Buyer Workshops for those planning to Buy a Home. The Home Buyer’s Workshop takes the mystery out of the home buying process. This workshop is generally held on either one or two Saturdays. Visit our events page for upcoming workshops.

Completion of this workshop will qualify you for a home buyer’s certificate (which many lenders require in order to receive a better mortgage rate) and will prepare you to become a home owner. The fee for this course is only $50 ($75 for couples) and includes handouts and refreshments.
