Get involved with Isles

In our mission to uplift families and individuals and build a healthy community and environment where they can grow and thrive, we rely on the support and engagement of community members to join us in our work. We have a variety of areas for volunteers to work, so you may be able to leverage your particular experience or skill set to support our mission.

We often have opportunities for individual volunteers to work on specific projects and tasks in Isles. We also welcome groups to work on a single project for either a half or full day. Typically, groups provide funding for supplies and materials. Workdays are scheduled periodically throughout the year, as needed, and advance planning is required.

Urban agriculture

Group volunteer days

Our community gardens are ideal for groups of five or more to participate in a day of service. Prior planning of the project is required.

Individual volunteers

If you’re a natural-born gardener, have carpentry skills, or are happy to get your hands dirty, our Urban Agriculture team could always use your help for a day, or even a weekly time slot.

Tree planting

A few times a year, our Community Corps team works to create a greener Trenton by planting trees in the City and volunteers are often needed.

Isles Youth Institute

Professional visitors and career exploration

Guest speakers take time to talk about professional development and diverse career paths, giving our students exposure to futures and occupations they wouldn’t otherwise have considered.

Mentoring and tutors

Make a multi-month commitment to mentor one or more Isles Youth Institute (IYI) students. Mentors do fun, healthy activities with their mentees a few times per month, and they serve as a positive and caring role model for our students.
Academic tutors who can make a regular time commitment between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays are needed. This is an on-going volunteer position. Please note:volunteers working with personal information must sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement.

Job development hosts

IYI would like to connect with businesses or organizations who have the capacity to host internships, shadowing days, or special projects for our students to work on, learn valuable skill-sets, and build their resume.

Community Planning and Development

Our CP&D team creates several fun and impactful events in the City throughout the year where sometimes a helping hand or two is needed. From art projects to street cleanups to tabling with the team at events or street fairs, take part in something meaningful in the community.

Trenton Community Street Team – Toddler’s Closet

The Trenton Community Street Team’s Toddler’s Closet serves as a clothing pantry for families in our community, providing gently used and new clothing and other essential items for children of all ages. Volunteers can provide assistance by organizing and restocking the Closet with incoming donations, and helping the team by reaching out to the community to encourage donations.

Donor Relations

Support an event or campaign by working with the team to do everything from collate materials and prepare a mailing, to help with planning, coordination, and promotion.
