Call To Action

WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS NOW

Recent federal funding cuts have eliminated two critical programs that protect our communities:

  1. CDC’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program – cut as part of the dismantling of the entire Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice
  2. AmeriCorps Program – eliminated nationwide by the Department of Government Efficiency

These cuts directly threaten the health of our children and the vital community services that Isles provides in Trenton and across New Jersey.

THE IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITY

Lead Poisoning Prevention

  • 10,000 housing units in Mercer County have un-remediated lead paint where children live
  • 250,000 homes across New Jersey have dangerous lead hazards
  • Trenton has asthma hospitalization rates over twice the average of New Jersey
  • Lead exposure causes permanent brain damage in children

AmeriCorps/Trenton Community Corps

  • $221,000 in funding lost
  • 12 AmeriCorps members currently working in Trenton communities have lost their positions
  • Vital services now at risk: urban agriculture education, youth job training, environmental initiatives, and sustainable stormwater management projects
